SOUTH BEND, IN - The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team responded to the scene of a pedestrian accident that occurred in South Bend last week.
The South Bend Tribune reports the collision occurred Dec. 19 in the area of Indiana 23 and Douglas Road, near the University of Notre Dame campus. Authorities said 60-year-old Mark H. Huffman of South Bend walked into the road at about 7 p.m. and was struck by a vehicle headed north on Indiana 23. Huffman was critically injured.
The driver of the vehicle, 77-year-old Robert W. Steinmetz of Decatur, Michigan, cooperated with authorities and did not show any indications of having been impaired at the time.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office is continuing to review the case.
