Teenage bicycle rider struck by SUV on State Road 13 in Goshen

GOSHEN, IN - A 15-year-old bicyclist was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Goshen Friday evening, reports WBND.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on State Road 13 north of County Road 36.  According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office, the boy was riding his bicycle east in a driveway when he entered the roadway in the southbound lanes of SR-13.

The rider failed to yield to southbound traffic, investigators said, and collided with the passenger's side door of a 2024 GMC Sierra that was going south.

The boy, a Goshen resident, was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital with possible lower extremity injuries.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Sierra driver, a 57-year-old man from Cromwell, was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.  The sheriff's office said nobody was cited in the incident.
