Teenager dies after being hit by vehicle in LaGrange County

LAGRANGE COUNTY, IN - The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department is investigating an accident last weekend that claimed the life of an area teenager, WNDU reports.

The incident happened Sunday morning in the vicinity of State Road 5 and County Road 750 South shortly before 1 a.m.   A vehicle had run off the road and slid into a ditch at that location, and another vehicle was trying to pull it out by using a tow strap.

The sheriff's department said a teenager who was a passenger in the crashed vehicle was standing at the tow strap when a third vehicle drove in between the two vehicles without seeing the strap and struck the teen.  The 16-year-old boy, a Nappanee resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.  No one else was injured.

Investigators said the third driver did not see the strap in the road because of inclement weather.
