Trial date set for woman charged in fatal wreck near Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM - A trial date has been set for the driver charged in a fatal accident on Interstate 25 last year, KOB reports.

Jeannine Jaramillo, who faces multiple charges in the case, is scheduled to go on trial starting Jan. 24, 2024.  Jaramillo was the subject of a high-speed chase on March 2, 2022 on I-25 near Santa Fe.  Authorities said she drove the wrong way on the interstate and collided with two Santa Fe police vehicles and another uninvolved vehicle.

Two first responders were killed in the crash, Santa Fe police officer Robert Duran and retired Las Vegas, New Mexico firefighter Frank Lovato.  Jaramillo told police after being arrested that she had been fleeing from a kidnapping attempt.  She reportedly made a similar claim after a previous chase in Cibola County.

The charges against Jaramillo include two counts of first-degree murder, great bodily harm by vehicle, aggravated fleeing police, and reckless driving.
