LAS CRUCES, NM - Police and first responders were called to the scene of a fatal crash at a store in Las Cruces last week, KRQE reports.
The driver of a 2015 Ford Explorer crashed into a Savers thrift store on North Main Street on Tuesday morning, leaving one person dead and at least 14 others injured.
An investigation determined that a 69-year-old woman driving the SUV mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake while pulling into a parking spot in front of the store. The vehicle jumped the curb, crashed through a facade, and came to rest near the southeast corner of the store.
The person killed was identified as 67-year-old Pamela Kaye Nelson.
Nine other people were taken to the hospital for treatment, while five people were evaluated at the scene and declined transport. Two of the victims were store employees, while 13 were customers. The injured ranged in age from 30 to 90. The driver was not injured.
The store was shut down for the accident investigation and there was no word on when it will reopen.
