INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The victim of a fatal crash in Indianapolis early Monday morning has now been identified as a college student, WTHR reports.
The person killed was 21-year-old Travis Ely, a junior at Purdue University. Ely and another student were in a pickup truck traveling north on South Meridian Street near County Line Road when the accident occurred at about 2:45 a.m.
Police said the pickup clipped a pole on the side of the road and crashed. The passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was hospitalized.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the wreck and said at this point, it does not appear that alcohol was a contributing factor.
Ely and the other student were reported to have been members of the Purdue Bass Fishing Club and were returning from a fishing tournament in Arkansas.
