Woman, 73, killed in rollover crash on I-25 north of Lemitar

LEMITAR, NM - One person was killed and two others injured in a crash in Socorro County on Sunday morning, according to the New Mexico State Police.

The collision involving two vehicles occurred on Interstate 25 north of Lemitar at about 11 a.m.  Investigators determined that the driver of a 2015 Nissan passenger vehicle was going south on I-25 behind a 2007 Jeep SUV and rear-ended the Jeep, causing it to roll over.

A passenger in the Jeep, identified as 73-year-old Patricia Despain of Holbrook, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The two drivers were both hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

The NMSP is investigating the accident, adding that alcohol was not a factor and seat belts appear to have been properly utilized.
