Woman critically injured after crashing into pole in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Paramedics rushed a woman to the hospital late Monday night after her car crashed on the near south side of Indianapolis.

WXIN reports the accident took place in the area of Madison Avenue and Morris Street shortly after 11 p.m.  An investigation determined that the woman was driving south on Madison Avenue when she crashed into a utility pole, causing the vehicle to become wedged between the pole and a guardrail.

Rescue crews extricated the driver, who had been trapped against the steering wheel.  She was listed in critical condition after being transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Investigators do not believe that impairment was a contributing factor in the wreck.
