Woman facing charges after crashing into Roswell police vehicle

ROSWELL, NM - A woman was arraigned last week on charges stemming from a crash and police chase in Roswell, according to the Roswell Daily Record.

61-year-old Georgia Perry of Roswell appeared in New Mexico 5th Judicial District Court in connection with the Oct. 8 incident.

Authorities said police had come to serve Perry with a search warrant that day in an alleyway of La Fonda Drive at about 3:49 p.m. A criminal complaint states that when Perry saw the officer, she got into a flatbed truck, sped towards the officer and crashed head-on into the police unit.

She allegedly fled the scene at high speed while going through several stop signs as Roswell police, New Mexico State Police, and Chaves County Sheriff's deputies pursued her vehicle.

According to investigators, Perry swerved between lanes of traffic and was chased by officers for over 40 miles before the chase was discontinued for safety reasons and the driver escaped.  She was arrested three days later at a residence on North Garden Avenue.

At her arraignment, Perry pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to a vehicle.

She is scheduled to go on trial in April 2024.
