Woman pleads guilty in fatal hit-and-run accident in Deming

DEMING, NM - A woman pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal accident in Deming last fall, according to the Deming Headlight.

26-year-old Cassandra Jasso was charged after a pedestrian was struck and killed near West Ash and South 8th Street on Nov. 8, 2022.   Police said Jasso left the scene after the crash but her vehicle was later located at a residence.  Jasso reportedly asked the homeowner to help repair the damage to her car.  Jasso later turned herself in and admitted hitting the pedestrian, authorities said.

Under a plea agreement accepted by a district judge, Jasso pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident and tampering with evidence.

A sentencing hearing will be held at a later date on the two charges, which carry potential sentences of three years and 18 months, respectively.  Our Albuquerque car accident lawyer will update this news blog should any additional details become available.
