Woman sentenced for I-25 drunk driving crash that killed 2 children

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - An Albuquerque woman has been sentenced to prison for a car crash in March 2021 that killed two children, reports KRQE.

Alexis Martinez pleaded guilty to several charges in connection with the accident that happened along Interstate 25 near the Big I.  Authorities said Martinez was driving drunk at over 80 miles an hour when she crashed into a barrier on the interstate, killing her 7-year-old daughter and a two-month old boy while injuring two other children.

Last week, a judge sentenced Martinez to 18 years behind bars along with five years of probation.  She was also ordered to undergo alcohol abuse treatment and get her GED while on probation.

Martinez and another woman who was in the car pleaded guilty to charges that included child abuse resulting in death and child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.  Our Albuquerque car accident lawyer will update this news blog if additional details are available.
