Wrong-way crash in Indianapolis leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A wrong-way accident in Indianapolis Friday night left one driver dead and another hospitalized, according to WTHR.

The crash happened in the area of East 34th Street and North Keystone Avenue at about 9:45 p.m.  Police said the driver of a pickup truck was going south at high speed and went through a red light at the intersection.  The pickup then crossed over into the northbound lanes.

When two northbound vehicles flashed their lights to get the pickup driver's attention, he attempted to go between the two cars and ended up hitting them both.  The driver of one of the northbound cars died at the scene while the other motorist was taken to the hospital.

According to police, the driver of the pickup was not injured and tried to flee the scene on foot but was later taken into custody.  He was driving with a suspended license, police said.

Keystone Avenue was shut down for several hours for the crash investigation.
