NOSSCR Annual Conference in Austin, Texas
Recently, Keller & Keller sent all six of its Indianapolis social security lawyers to Austin, Texas, to attend the annual conference for the National Organization of Social Security Representatives (NOSSCR). NOSSCR is an organization built on making sure that people who need disability benefits get great advocacy and representation. NOSSCR is a specialized bar association for attorneys and advocates who represent Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income claimants throughout the adjudicative process.
Since 1979, NOSSCR has been providing continuing legal education to its thousands of members and public policy advocacy on behalf of its members and the people with disabilities they represent. Its mission is to advocate for improvements in Social Security disability programs and to ensure that individuals with disabilities applying for Social Security Disability and SSI benefits have access to highly qualified representation and receive fair decisions.

In Austin, NOSSCR provided several networking opportunities at local restaurants, but this conference is not all “boots and barbeque” – the attorneys will attend several hours of classes each day to get updates on rule changes and case law, to hone their skills, and to learn new techniques for dealing with challenges in the process of applying for disability benefits. These classes are presented by experts in various aspects of Social Security applications – a member of Congress, an Administrative Law Judge, healthcare providers, professors, and more. Acting Social Security Administration Commissioner Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi spoke to conference attendees from Washington, D.C., and discussed many planned changes within the administration – including staffing field and hearing offices, addressing lengthy processing times, and implementing new software to assist in reviewing medical records.
