1 dead after vehicles collide on northeast side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indianapolis police said a sedan and a pickup truck were involved in a deadly collision early Friday morning.

According to a WISH report, the accident happened in the area of 46th Street and Emerson Avenue.  Police said the driver of the pickup was traveling at high speed on Emerson Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. when it was struck on its side by the sedan that was headed south.

The man driving the sedan was thrown from the car and died at the scene.  The pickup truck driver was hospitalized with what were reported to be critical, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.  Drivers were advised to avoid the area as the investigation was expected to last for several hours.
