15-year-old bicycle rider struck by vehicle in Park Township

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI - A teenager was injured after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Ottawa County Wednesday evening.

The Holland Sentinel reports the incident occurred on Ottawa Beach Road near Waukazoo Drive in Park Township.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said the driver of a 2013 Kia Optima was headed west just after 7 p.m. when a 15-year-old boy riding a bicycle entered the roadway and was hit by a vehicle.

The bicyclist, a Holland resident, was transported to Holland Hospital with moderate injuries.  He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said.  The Kia driver, a 22-year-old Holland woman, was not injured.

The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
