Accident in New Durham Township leaves 2 dead, 4 injured

LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office has released details of a fatal collision that took place in New Durham Township on Saturday afternoon, according to WNDU.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer pulling a U-Haul trailer was going south on County Road 900 West shortly before 12:45 p.m. and did not stop at the intersection with Joliet Road.  The Chevrolet was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling east on Joliet Road.

Two passengers in the Chevrolet, an 11-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene.  The Chevrolet driver, a 41-year-old man, and two other passengers, a 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, were hospitalized.  Their conditions were not released.  All five occupants of the vehicle were from Justice, Illinois.

The Ford driver, a 41-year-old man from LaPorte, was also hospitalized.

The sheriff's office is continuing its investigation into the cause of the wreck, and added that toxicology test results are pending.
