Alleged drunk driver crashes van into house in Trail Creek

LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - Police arrested an alleged drunk driver following an accident in LaPorte County last Wednesday evening, according to WSBT.

Police said the driver of a 2009 Volkswagen Routan was traveling on Yanke Road at about 6 p..m. when he went through a stop sign, continued into a yard and crashed into the foundation of a home in the 1900 block of Welnetz Road in Trail Creek.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Zachary Lane, was charged with  Level 6 felony operating while intoxicated and Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.  Authorities said he had a prior OWI conviction. 

No one was seriously injured, but a resident of the home said she had been sitting in the area where the car crashed just ten minutes before the incident.

Lane reportedly told police he was driving over the speed limit and was unable to stop the vehicle.
