Collision at Indianapolis intersection leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A two-vehicle collision in Indianapolis on Friday morning left one of the drivers dead, according to a WXIN report.

Indianapolis police said the driver of a Mercedes-Benz was stopped at a red light at 56th Street and Lafayette Road at about 2:30 a.m. and then drove into the intersection.  The Mercedes was t-boned by a Jeep that was traveling east on 56th Street.

The Mercedes driver was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.  The Jeep driver sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.   Alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing factor.
