Culver man killed when freight train crashes into car on tracks

MARSHALL COUNTY, IN - Authorities said a driver died following a railroad accident on the tracks in Marshall County on Sunday morning.

A WNDU report states that the crash happened on State Road 17 near 15th Road in Burr Oak sometime before 9 a.m.  A preliminary investigation indicated that 57-year-old Scott Sorg was drivng a 2005 Ford Escape north on State Road 17 and drove around the crossing arms at the railroad tracks while they were down.

The Escape was then struck by an oncoming westbound freight train and the vehicle ended up on the south side of the tracks.  Sorg, a Culver resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
