GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A fleeing driver was involved in a car accident in Grand Rapids on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
According to a WZZM report, the driver had been involved in a minor crash at Eastern Avenue SE and Wealthy Street SE. Police said the man then fled the scene at high speed, lost control and slammed into a tree at Eastern Avenue SE and Sigsbee Street SE.
Grand Rapids police arrived at the scene at about 3:30 p.m. and found that the driver, a woman, and two children were trapped in the vehicle. They were extricated by Grand Rapids firefighters and taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.
The driver had significant injuries, the woman had an injured leg, and the children were not hurt.
The incident remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department Traffic Unit.
