Dump Truck Kills Three In Odon, Indiana, Highway Shoulder Accident

Posted on Oct 17, 2011
Three people were killed on the shoulder of State Road 58 in Indiana after a dump truck slammed into the group, who were working on a disabled vehicle. The fatal truck accident took place on Monday morning in Daviess County.

According to local news reports, 39-year-old Jerri Janel Davis of Odon, Indiana was driving along SR 58 when her minivan ran out of gas. Her mother, 58-year-old Paula Jane Young of Odon, pulled up behind the vehicle with her own minivan to offer assistance. Soon, Good Samaritan Lester Blair, 74, of Elnora, appeared at the scene from a nearby residence with gasoline for the car.

A dump truck carrying rocks and driven by a 49-year-old trucker, Jeffery Wolford of Bloomington, struck the vehicles and all three people as it passed the scene. All three people on the ground were killed in the Indiana shoulder accident and pronounced dead at the scene, while Wolford suffered injuries and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Spilled rocks and gravel on the roadway, along with the complicated accident scene, closed the road for six hours.

The Indiana truck accident is still under investigation and Indiana State Police are still unsure of why the trucker left the roadway and struck the vehicles. Charges have not been filed against the driver.
