Girl hit by SUV while trying to catch school bus in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A young girl was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Indianapolis on Wednesday morning.

According to WTHR, the incident happened in the 6600 block of East Washington Street near Kitley Avenue on the city's far east side.

Police said the girl was walking across the street to catch her school bus at about 7:30 a.m. when she was hit by a Jeep and seriously injured.  Her family said that she is in stable condition.

The school bus belonged to a charter school called Believe.  When the accident occurred, the bus was reported to have its stop sign extended and its flashing lights working.

The driver stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with investigators.
