Man sentenced for fatal Indianapolis crash

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said a man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for a deadly crash in Indianapolis, according to WXIN.

The accident happened in July 2023 in the 3400 block of N. Keystone Avenue on the city's northeast side.  Investigators said Rodney Spells was driving a pickup truck when he went through a red light and collided with two northbound vehicles.  The driver of one of the vehicles, 67-year-old Warren Morphis, was killed in the wreck.

Spells ran away from the scene but was later apprehended and found to have evidence consistent with dealing with narcotics, according to prosecutors.

He was convicted in October on multiple charges, including reckless homicide, resisting law enforcement, and causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
