LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - A motorcycle accident in LaPorte County on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of two people on the bike, reports WNDU.
The crash took place in the 3500 block of N. US-35 at about 1:10 p.m. An investigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office found that the operator of a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle was going north and went off the roadway. The motorcycle continued across a lawn, struck a tree and landscaping, hit some boulders and ended up in a vegetable garden.
The driver and passenger, both Kingsford Heights residents, were thrown from the bike. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 59-year-old Anna Thomas. The driver, 58-year-old Steven Dabney, died after being taken to an area hospital.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
