LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - Police were dispatched to a fatal car wreck in LaPorte County on Thursday morning, WNDU reported.
Sheriff's deputies said a man was driving east on US-20 when the incident took place at about 8 a.m. near County Road 500 East. The driver reportedly entered the westbound lanes of US-20 while trying to pass two other vehicles. He then crossed through the grass median, went back across the eastbound lanes, drove off the roadway and struck a large concrete barrier.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Caleb Tekker of Mishawaka, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Speed was believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
