Motorcyclist dead after crash with semi on State Road 2 in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, IN - A motorcycle rider died after colliding with a semi-truck in South Bend on Wednesday evening, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office said.

According to WNBD, the collision occurred on State Road 2 near Chapel Lane at about 6:36 p.m.

An investigation by the St. Joseph County Crash Team found that the driver of an Amazon tractor semi-trailer was trying to make a U-turn on State Road 2 when the truck was hit by a motorcycle.  The motorcyclist, 29-year-old Tyler Lee Smith of Baroda, Michigan, died after being taken to an area hospital.

The truck driver, 35-year-old Volodymyr Kryzhan of Bound Brook, New Jersey, was not injured and is reported to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities said the driver did not show any signs of impairment.
