Pedestrian dead after being hit by box truck in Greenfield parking lot

GREENFIELD, IN - An accident on West Green Meadows Drive in Greenfield left one pedestrian dead and another injured Monday morning, WTHR reports.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a Community Health Network office building near North Broadway Street.  Investigators determined that an employee of a box truck company was outside the truck at about 10 a.m. to operate the vehicle's document shredding mechanism.

At that point the truck lunged forward and struck a parked vehicle, two pedestrians, and another parked vehicle before coming to a stop.

One of the pedestrians, an Indianapolis man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other victim, a woman, was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The truck company employee was reported to be fully cooperating with investigators and submitted to a blood draw, the standard procedure in cases of accidents resulting in serious injury or death.

The names of the victims have not yet been released as police continue to investigate the crash.
