Police respond to deadly accident on NW side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Police were called to the scene of a fatal wreck in Indianapolis early Friday morning, WTHR reports.

Two vehicles, a sedan and an SUV, collided in the area of Lafayette Road and West 56th Street on the city's northwest side at 2:30 a.m. Police said the sedan was stopped at a light and suddenly accelerated, hitting the eastbound SUV.

The driver of the sedan was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.  The SUV driver was not injured and submitted to a blood draw as is standard procedure in fatal crash investigations.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
