South Bend man, 23, killed when motorcycle collides with car

SOUTH BEND, IN - A car and a motorcycle were involved in a fatal collision on the southeast side of South Bend on Sunday afternoon, reports WNDU.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team provided details of their preliminary investigation. It indicated that a driver was making a left turn from Southern View onto S. Ironwood Drive at about 2:45 p.m. The driver, a 61-year-old woman from Elkhart, turned into the path of a motorcycle and the crash occurred.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Benson of South Bend. The driver of the car and her passenger, a 27-year-old Elkhart man, were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The driver was reported to be cooperating with the investigation, which blocked traffic on S. Ironwood Drive for about two hours.
