South Bend woman, 33, dies following car wreck on US-20

LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - A car accident in LaPorte County Monday claimed the life of a passenger in the vehicle, reports WBST.

Police said a woman was driving a 2008 Chevrolet west on US-20 when the crash happened shortly before 1:25 p.m. According to investigators, the car went off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a tree at the northwest corner of the intersection with Wilhelm Road.

A passenger in the front seat was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 33-year-old Kendra Murphy of South Bend. The driver, a 40-year-old woman from South Bend, suffered an upper body injury and was transported to an area hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

Police are continuing to investigate the fatal wreck, and are awaiting a toxicology report.
