INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Police said a driver ran off the road and crashed ihto an Indianapolis church on Thursday afternoon, reports the Indianapolis Star.
The accident took place at about 4:30 p.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church at 7700 North Meridian Street on the city's north side. Police said a 61-year-old woman behind the wheel of a sedan drove over the lawn of the church before slamming into the building, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who were in the church parking lot rushed to the scene and pulled the woman out of the vehicle. She was transported to an area hospital and was listed in serious condition. Indianapolis firefighters extinguished the car fire before it could reach the church building.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
