Woman injured when vehicle crashes into building on E. 23rd Street

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A driver was injured after her vehicle crashed on the east side of Indianapolis early Friday morning.

According to WTTV, a woman was driving eastbound on Interstate 70 shortly before 12:30 a.m. when she went off a ramp and crashed into the side of a building on East 23rd Street.

The driver was transported to Eskenazi Hospital with severe burns and was listed in serious condition.  A 2-year-old passenger was taken to Riley Children's Hospital at IU Health but was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police were trying to determine whether the driver was intoxicated, but also said she may have experienced a medical emergency.
