New Mexico Nursing Homes Want to Stay Off "Special Focus Facility" List.

Documented reports of nursing home abuse have skyrocketed in recent past and in some instances a handful of these facilities have the misfortune of finding themselves named as a "special focus facility" by The Centers for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS).

Its not uncommon for a nursing home to have minor problems or deficiencies, items that usually can be corrected with additional training or little adjustment; however, being on the special focus facility list means that the nursing home in question is often violating several major health and safety issues putting residents' lives at great risk.

The CMS has performed multiple inspections inside New Mexico nursing homes and unfortunately found that a great number of these facilities received negative scores and were at the bottom of the list in terms of cleanliness and safety, leaving open the real possibility of nursing home abuse cases that require the services of a lawyer to represent those injured.

There are thousands of New Mexico nursing homes in our state and an act of abuse can even occur at a facility with the highest standards and care, leaving a resident with broken bones, bed sores, or suffering from severe malnutrition.  With that in mind, below is a list of New Mexico nursing homes that have, in the past, found themselves named to the special focus facilities list by CMS:

  • Advanced Healthcare of Albuquerque
  • Albuquerque Heights Healthcare and Rehabilitation
  • Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Center
  • Clayton Nursing and Rehab
  • Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation
  • Fort Bayard Medical Center
  • New Mexico State Veteran’s Home
  • NM Behavioral Health Institute
  • Paloma Blanca Health and Rehabilitation
  • Red Rocks Care Center
  • Rehabilitation Center of Albuquerque
  • Retirement Ranches Inc.
  • San Juan Care and Rehabilitation Center
  • Silver City Care Center
  • Sombrillo Nursing Facility
  • Taos Living Center
  • Vida Encantada Nursing & Rehab

Corrective measures taken by these, or any nursing home, can result in the facility being removed from this list, and at present there are no New Mexico nursing homes labeled as a special focus facility. However, the CMS's list is continually updated and it does not include the names of facilities that still have many potential problems that could ultimately lead to a nursing home abuse lawsuit.

If you think that your loved one has been injured as a result of neglect of a mistake made by an employee, it doesn't matter whether the facility has ever been found to be in violation by CMS, you should still contact a qualified nursing home abuse lawyer to review any potential claim and correct the dangers.
