ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Police said a car crashed into the National Hispanic Cultural Center in southwest Albuquerque on Friday afternoon, according to KRQE.
The car went into through the front doors of the building located on 4th Street SW off Avenida Dolores Huerta at about 1:30 p.m.
The male driver was critically injured while his female passenger was less seriously injured, and both were hospitalized.
Police said the crash may have been intentional. They said it happened after the driver and passenger were arguing, with the passenger telling the driver to slow down.
The crash caused a fire and subsequent evacuation of the building. There was significant damage to the building, which had to be stabilized by rescue crews. All events at the cultural center were canceled for the weekend.
