MADISON COUNTY, IL - At least three people were killed when a bus traveling from Indianapolis to St. Louis was involved in a crash in southern Illinois early Wednesday morning, the Indianapolis Star reports.
The accident happened along Interstate 70 west near the Silver Lake Rest Area in Madison County. Illinois State Police responded to the scene shortly before 2 a.m. and found that a Greyhound bus had struck three commercial vehicles that were parked on an exit ramp for the rest area.
Along with the three confirmed fatalities, police said 14 other people from the bus, including the driver, were hospitalized with serious injuries. No one in the commercial vehicles was injured.
Greyhound said a relief bus was sent to the scene to help the passengers. One lane was opened on I-70 west while police and emergency crews were responding.
