ATV driver critically injured in SW Albuquerque collision

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Albuquerque police are investigating a collision between an all-terrain vehicle and a sport utility vehicle last week.

According to a report by KOB, the crash happened June 22 at the intersection of 98th Street and Tower Road at about 11 p.m.  Police said the driver of the SUV was making a left turn from 98th Street onto Tower Road when it was struck on the right front fender by the ATV.

The ATV driver and a passenger were thrown from the vehicle, and the driver was transported to UNM Hospital in critical condition.  The passenger and the SUV driver were treated at the scene.

Neither ATV rider was wearing a helmet, police said.  Investigators are trying to determine whether the speed of the ATV was a contributing factor in the accident.
