ATV rider dies following accident near El Rito Campgrounds

RIO ARRIBA COUNTY - A man was killed when his all-terrain vehicle crashed in Rio Arriba County on Saturday, according to the Los Alamos Daily Post.

The accident happened on State Road 110 and Forrest Road 559, near the El Rito Campgrounds. The New Mexico State Police said 35-year-old Darrick Ocana of El Rito was operating a 2020 Can-Am side-by-side ATV near the campgrounds when the vehicle rolled.

Ocana was ejected from the ATV and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a seat belt, state police said.  Investigators do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
