SANTA FE, NM - A search is continuing for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident outside of Santa Fe.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the man being sought is 29-year-old Mario Mendez. He is wanted for a collision on Oct. 15 on Paseo de Nopal in which a woman and her two children were struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The woman, 43-year-old Monique Maes, was pronounced dead the following day. The two children sustained minor injuries.
Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office deputies found the white SUV involved in the crash several miles away from the scene and linked it to Mendez.
He is the subject of an arrest warrant, and is facing criminal charges that include homicide by vehicle, tampering with evidence and two counts of child abuse.
