BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM - The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center announced that one of its corrections officers was killed in a crash last week.
In a news release, the MDC reported the single-vehicle accident happened late Tuesday on the I-40 frontage road near Atrisco Boulevard and Central Avenue SW. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Joshua Munoz, who was part of the 246th MDC cadet class that graduated from the academy Dec. 14. Officer Munoz began his official tour of duty at the detention center on Dec. 20.
“Bernalillo County, County Commissioners, MDC officers, staff, and the warden’s office would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Officer Joshua Munoz, including his brothers and sisters from MDC Class 246, who have been impacted greatly by this sudden and tragic loss,” said Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca.
The crash remains under investigation by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
