Car crashes into Albuquerque motel, causing extensive damage

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A car crashed into the front of a motel in downtown Albuquerque on Monday night, KRQE reported.

The incident happened at the Rodeway Inn on Central Avenue.  Witneses reported seeing the driver going about 60 to 70 miles an hour and hitting a curb prior to the collision.  According to motel owner Dawson Janwala, the vehicle knocked down columns supporting the parking overhang in front of the main entrance.

"I'm not sure if it was road rage or what it was but someone was speeding they kind of ramped up and slammed right into our canopy last night," Janwala was quoted as saying.

No major injuries were reported, but the driver was taken to the hospital.  Damage to the business was estimated at $125,000 to $150,000.

The crash remains under investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department.
