Injuries reported after train crashes into vehicle near Portales

PORTALES, NM - Railroad officials said a train and a vehicle were involved in a collision near Portales last week, according to MyHighPlains.com.

BNSF Railway said one of its trains struck a vehicle that was crossing the railroad tracks on Wednesday morning at about 8 a.m.  Occupants of the vehicle were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The number of peope injured was not released.    No injuries were reported among the train's crew.

There was no immediate word on what led to the accident.  BNSF Railway officials said the crossing where the incident happened is equipped with crossbucks.

Railroad crossings in the area were closed for about two hours while the crash was being investigated.
