ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man is facing charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Albuquerque in 2022, according to a KRQE report.
The suspect, 23-year-old Kalani Hodges, was arrested this month and has been ordered to be held in custody until his trial. The collision happened in the area of Coors Boulevard and St. Josephs Drive.
Authorities said Hodges was driving drunk and going at about twice the speed limit when he crashed into a vehicle driven by 71-year-old Nena Johnson, killing her.
Hodges allegedly fled the scene, and has now been charged with homicide by vehicle, leaving the scene of a crime, and reckless driving.
Judge Joseph Montano ordered that Hodges remain in jail.
“Vehicular homicide resulting in the death of another may not be defined as a crime of violence, but it is clearly a danger due to the fact someone is going 90 miles an hour on a major road in the city that ultimately results in a death, and serious injuries to a passenger. And then there’s fleeing that takes place, this is clearly outrageous and dangerous,” said Montano.
