ALBUQUERQUE, NM - One person was killed and another injured in a suspected drunk driving accident near Downtown Albuquerque Sunday morning, reports the Albuquerque Journal.
Police responded to the scene in the area of Broadway Boulevard and Hazeldine Avenue after the incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. Investigators determined that the driver of a 2013 Chrysler was headed south on Broadway Boulevard and entered the northbound lanes while going at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and the vehicle struck a tree on the east side of the street.
The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was believed to have been intoxicated at the time, police said. A male passenger was hospitalized with a leg injury.
Police were trying to determine if the crash was linked to an incident a short time earlier at 2nd Street and Coal Avenue in which a vehicle with two people inside fled the area.
