ROSWELL, NM - A man was seriously injured after his pickup truck crashed in Chaves County, according to the Roswell Daily Record.
Authorities responded to the scene June 16 in the vicinity of U.S. 285 at about 11:44 p.m. The Chaves County Sheriff's Office said the driver of a pickup truck had been heading north when the vehicle went off the highway and plunged about 50 to the bottom of the Rio Felix.
The sheriff's office, New Mexico State Police and local rescue crews arrived to help the driver, who was pinned inside the pickup. Crews used ropes to lift the man up the embankment and onto the road. He was transported to a hospital in Roswell and was then airlifted to a trauma center in El Paso for further treatment.
The sheriff's office said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the incident.
