Man sentenced for DWI crash that killed pedestrian near Old Town

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a fatal accident that occurred last year in Albuquerque.

According to a report by KRQE, 23-year-old Jonathan Sandoval was ordered to spend seven years behind bars along with five years on probation.

The crash occurred in August 2022 in the area of Central Avenue and Rio Grande Boulevard near Old Town.

Cameras showed that Sandoval was driving a Dodge Challenger at about 5 a.m. when he drove onto a sidewalk and struck a pedestrian waiting at a bus stop.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sandoval allegedly took the license plate off his car and left the scene before returning later.  He showed indications of alcohol use and failed a field sobriety test, authorities said.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Sandoval pleaded guilty in May to DWI vehicular homicide.  Our Albuquerque car accident lawyer will update this news blog with any additional information as it comes to light.
