Man who crashed into NMSP officer's vehicle pleads guilty

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man has pleaded guilty in connection with a June 2022 crash involving a New Mexico State Police vehicle, KRQE reports.

The incident happened in the area of Interstate 25 and Paseo Del Norte Boulevard, where authorities say David Marquez was speeding at over 100 miles an hour and weaving in and out of traffic before colliding with an NMSP officer's cruiser.

Marquez, who was allegedly driving drunk at the time, tried to flee from the scene on foot along with an 18-year-old passenger before both were apprehended.

Under a plea deal, Marquez pleaded guilty in court last week to charges of aggravated assault, aggravated fleeing, and being a felon in possession of a gun.

He was given a sentence of seven years in prison and three years of probation.
