News: Albuquerque girl dies following crash involving stolen SUV

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A young girl has died from injuries suffered in a crash in southeast Albuquerque involving a stolen vehicle, reports KOB.

The incident happened March 27 when police said John Bearden Jr. stole a Chevy SUV owned by the State of New Mexico from the New Mexico Fairgrounds.  Bearden went through a stop sign at high speed and crashed into another SUV near Bell Avenue and San Pedro Drive, according to police.

The occupants of the other vehicle, 43-year-old David Pizarro and his 10-year-old daughter, were transported to an area hospital.  The girl, an Albuquerque resident, passed away late Sunday night, her family said.

Bearden is being held in jail until his trial on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash with serious physical injury and great bodily harm by vehicle.  He has pleaded not guilty.  Prosecutors said that following the girl's death, the charges could be revised to include vehicular homicide.
