News: Passenger killed in Highway 60 pickup truck crash

SOCORRO COUNTY, NM - An elderly man was killed in a truck accident in Socorro County, New Mexico State Police said.

The NMSP issued a news release on the incident that occurred Wednesday on Highway 60 outside Magdalena.  State troopers responded to the scene at about 11 a.m. at mile marker 103.

Investigators determined a 65-year-old man was driving a 2001 Ford truck westbound when the vehicle hit a patch of ice, slid off the roadway and crashed.  A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was identified as 86-year-old Basil Cox of Magdalena.  Cox was not wearing his seatbelt at the time, troopers said.

The truck driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured.  The NMSP is investigating the cause of the wreck, and said that alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
