ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man has been sentenced to prison for causing a fatal drunk driving accident in Albuquerque, reports KRQE.
Authorities said Victor Martinez was driving under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred in August 2021. Martinez drove his Chevrolet van through a stop sign in the area of Constitution Avenue and Washington Street and crashed into a Mercury sedan driven by Ruth Malone, who died of her injuries.
As part of a plea agreement, Martinez pleaded guilty this week to a charge of homicide by vehicle DWI. He was sentenced to six years behind bars and will also have to restitution to the family of the victim.
