CARRIZOZO, NM -  New Mexico State Police said a driver was killed in a head-on collision in Lincoln County on Monday morning.

The accident happened on U.S. Highway 54 at milepost 130 north of Carrizozo, according to an NMSP news release.

An investigation determined that 25-year-old Jay Drake Murrey of Nottingham, New Hampshire was driving a GMC Envoy south on U.S. 54 at about 9 a.m. when he crossed over the center line and collided with a northbound Kenworth semi-truck.  Murrey was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Kenworth, a 50-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital.  No details were released on the extent of his injuries.

State Police are investigating the cause of the wreck, and believe at this point that alcohol was not a contributing factor.  They added that seat belts appear to have been properly utilized.
